Protection from technical web content

  • In most Authorities or institutions a secure configuration of the browser is fixed! Do not try to change it.
  • Unless your PC is centrally managed, make sure to change the privacy settings in your webbrower in a secure and privacy-friendly way (e.g. restrict data transfer to third parties)
  • Do not load or launch programs from websites unless you are instructed to do so.

To ensure that access data and page content cannot be read by third parties during transmission on the open Internet, the technical protocol “TLS” (Transport Layer Security) is used for transmission. You can recognize corresponding offers by the abbreviation “https” in front of the address.

The browser automatically establishes an encrypted connection to all pages whose address begins with https://. This ensures that no data can be read or changed during transmission. For this purpose, the certificate of the website (see tip below) must be assigned to the issuing authority of the page.

Good to know

A certificate is an “electronic attestation” that documents the assignment of a website to its issuing authority. Connected with it is the protection of the page calls over a transport coding (over HTTPS, see the explanations to the [technical structure of the Internet]({{ref “/060 lesson internet/01.Was-ist-das-Internet.de.md” >})). You can access the certificate of an Internet page by clicking on the lock icon in the address bar of your browser.
