Virus attack - what to do?

If you suspect that a virus has crept in, a quick reaction is required to avoid greater damage. The important thing is:

• Do not panic!
• Disconnect the computer from the network, i.e. pull the cable or switch off the wireless connection!
• Under no circumstances carry out your own cleanup actions!
• Notify your IT representative or the ServiceDesk of the ITMC. They will take care of further steps to remove the virus and restore affected data.
• If necessary, have the last data backup ready.
• If the virus asks you to pay a “ransom”, inform the SIC. Do not make any payments yourself under any circumstances! If in doubt, both are gone - data and money.
